The Lucas County Sheriff's Office handles fingerprint-based background checks. When you get fingerprinted there, your prints are scanned and sent to the Ohio Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation for comparison against a statewide criminal database. The FBI performs a similar check against a national database. Both electronic and traditional ink card fingerprinting are available at the Sheriff's Office.

Appointments are required. Fingerprinting services run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. All payments must be made in cash. No checks, no cards. The BCI fingerprint check costs $30. The FBI check costs $40. If you just need ink fingerprints without the electronic scan, that runs $5. These fees are set by the Lucas County Sheriff's Office and may differ from other counties.

Bring your state ID or driver's license. You also need the Ohio Revised Code number provided by the agency requesting the check. Under ORC 109.572, every background check requires a valid reason code. Have the mailing address ready for where results should be sent.

The Lucas County Clerk of Courts maintains and provides access to all appellate, civil, felony, criminal, and domestic relations court records. Their public records search includes marriage, divorce, criminal, and arrest records. This is a key resource for anyone doing a Lucas County background check because it shows how cases were resolved, not just that an arrest was made.

The Clerk also runs the Automobile and Watercraft Division and serves as a US Passport agency. The Imaging and Central Records Center is responsible for digitizing official documents for county agencies. Court records are available during regular business hours. Online searches can be done any time through their website.

Note: Lucas County court records show case outcomes, which is information that a standard BCI check does not always include.

These fees are paid at the time of service. There are no refunds. If you lose your receipt, you will not get a replacement. The fees cover the cost of processing and sending your prints to BCI and the FBI. They do not cover the cost of any additional searches or copies from the Clerk of Courts.
