The Butler County Sheriff's Office background check page lays out everything you need to know. They run four types of checks. A local background check covers Butler County Jail records only and costs $4.00. This one is done while you wait. A state BCI check costs $30.00. A national FBI check runs $35.00. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM EST. No appointment is needed. Walk right in. All fees must be paid in cash only. No cards, no checks. Bring a state-issued photo ID and have a complete mailing address ready for where results should go. This is not optional. They will not process your request without it.

One important rule: national FBI results cannot be mailed to a personal, residential, or out-of-state address. They must go to the requesting organization or agency. This catches some people off guard, so plan for it ahead of time. State and national checks use the electronic WebCheck system, and results from BCI can take up to 30 days to arrive by mail from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Butler County Central Records Division
